Director: Ang Lee
Screenplay: David Magee, based on the novel “Life of Pi” by Yann Martel
USA, UK, TW • 2012 • 127' • feature film • adventure drama

Pi Patel grows up in his family's zoo in India, where his parents instill in him both a knowledge of animals and a religious curiosity. In his search for meaning, Pi practises Hinduism, Christianity and Islam.

The family is forced to relocate their zoo overseas, but their ship sinks during the journey. After the shipwreck, Pi is left alone on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. Survival becomes a struggle for food, water and control over the tiger, as well as a psychological battle with loneliness. Memories of home and family intertwine with his struggle, hope, and faith in survival under extreme conditions. The film concludes with two versions of the events - one fantastical and the other brutally realistic - raising questions about narrative truth and the role of storytelling in confronting trauma.

Admission is free.
