The Film Curriculum programme on Monday, 9 March at 7 pm at the Cultural and Information Center KIC is dedicated to the work of Fadil Hadžić, one of Croatia's most prolific directors. His short documentary film Hokus-pokus is a witty satire that begins with the seemingly narrow topic of working hours in Yugoslavia, before extending its critique to broader aspects of the society, economy and culture of the time.
Protest, widely regarded as Hadžić's finest feature, reflects the influence of the Yugoslav “Black Wave” with its modernist style and incisive critique of socialist society. The brilliant cast is led by Bekim Fehmiu, one of the biggest stars of Yugoslav cinema, who received an award at the Pula Film Festival for his performance.
The screening will be introduced by Dr Tomislav Šakić, lecturer in the history of Croatian film at the Academy of Dramatic Art. The programme is curated by Dr Juraj Kukoč, senior film archivist at the Croatian Film Archive. Admission is free.
The Film Curriculum programme is dedicated to Croatian cinema classics and is intended for students of Croatian film history, as well as for all audiences interested in exploring the country’s film heritage. It is organised in collaboration with the Croatian State Archives (Croatian Cinematheque Department), the Cultural and Information Center, the Croatian Audiovisual Center (Department of Film Literacy and Audience Development), and professors of Croatian film history from the Academy of Dramatic Art, the Faculty of Croatian Studies, and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb.
