Criticism and Society: Print and Film – The Role and Position of Film Publishing

Friday, 5 June 2026 at 7 pm

Panel discussion and screening of the film Hétpróba

The Croatian Society of Film Critics presents Print and Film – The Role and Position of Film Publishing, a curatorial and film programme dedicated to contemporary practices of independent and experimental publishing in the fields of audiovisual art and cinema. The programme responds to the recent resurgence of independent publishing initiatives and the artist's book as a format, both of which re-establish the printed medium as a space for critical reflection, permanence, and intermedia artistic research.

The evening will feature a panel discussion with guests Giovanni Marchini, editor-in-chief of Fireflies Press, and Daniella Shreir, editor-in-chief of Another Gaze journal and the online film platform Another Screen.

The panel will be followed by a screening of Hétpróba (1982, 53') by Hungarian experimental filmmaker director Dóra Maurer.
