Chantal Akerman's final film is a remarkably restrained and deeply moving portrait of her mother, a Polish Jewish woman who survived Auschwitz and suffered from chronic anxiety. Akerman filmed her in the final months of her life, which she largely spent in her Brussels home.
Beneath the seemingly ordinary, everyday conversations, filmed on a low-resolution “home” camera, Skype or a mobile phone, runs a current of intense emotion, revealing the full complexity of the mother-daughter relationship.
