The award is given for a literary work of any genre: literary essays, short stories, poetry, drama, novels or hybrid forms, which, alongside undeniable literary quality, reflect the values of inclusivity, an open society, equality, genuine freedom of speech, and the broader humanistic values championed by Predrag Matvejević.

From 11 to 17 September 2026, Zagreb will host the 59th International Puppet Theatre Festival – PIF, one of the oldest and longest-running European puppet festivals. Over the seven days of the festival, 13 theatres and artistic groups from nine countries will present contemporary puppetry aimed at children, young people and adults.
